Dokdo, known in the West as the Liancourt Rocks, is a rocky outcrop located in the East Sea between Korea and Japan. It was initially called "Dohlseom" (Rock Island) in Korean and later transliterated with Chinese characters to become Dokdo (meaning Lonely Island) due to the change in pronunciation over time. It's a remote island with no inhabitants besides ROK Coast Guard personnel, a few seagulls, and marine life. Despite this, the island is extremely important to Korea - both politically and economically.
So why did we at Jejes Coffee decide to name our new blend after it? We believe that something so small can make a huge difference in the end. It is like how Dokdo makes a huge impact on South Korea's economy (with its massive Exclusive Economic Zone) despite being so small and isolated.
Similarly, while we are a small business, the impact we hope to have on our community and other communities will be significant when we keep differentiating our specialty coffee for all. This coffee brew is our way of embodying that idea and making it a little more real with its unique tastes of caramelized cocoa with a hint of cinnamon.
